Honarary Wildlife Wardens

Afat

Afat hails from Mabul Island and is one of our longest serving Honorary Wildlife Wardens and loves nothing more than seeing baby turtles. He has been with Scuba Junkie since 2013 as a Divemaster and recently became a dive instructor. His students benefit from not only his years of experience and knowledge but also his calm and gentle manner and his amazing spotting ability!!!

Khai “Legend”

Yes we have a lot of Khais!!! Khai legend is called Legend for a very good reason, as anyone who has dived with him can confirm!!! His spotting abilities are mind boggling!! He started with Scuba Junkie in the kitchens (his pizzas are pretty special) before deciding he wanted to be a Divemaster. Over 10 years later and he is still as enthusiastic as ever about the underwater and caring for it, his title of Legend is very well deserved.

Shar

Shar has the biggest smile and you can’t help but smile back when you see him! He joined Scuba Junkie in 2019 to do his Divemaster and has been with us ever since. He loves being part of the turtle hatchery team because he wants to help protect turtles and play his part in keeping them safe for everyone. His proudest moment is when he helped free a turtle caught in a fishing net. And even at a turtle nesting at 1am in the morning he will still be wearing that big happy smile!!!

Azlan

Azlan is a true eco-worrier as well as being an awesome divemaster!! He is always willing to lend a hand whether with the turtle hatchery, beach and reef cleans, presentations (sometimes to large audiences) or educating new divemasters about good diving practices. He is an amazing role model for how things should be done both in and out of the water and is passionate about protecting his local environment.

Trainee wardens

A group of trainee wardens from the newer ranks of the Scuba Junkie family are actively engaged in protecting the sea turtles. They are all passionate about the underwater world and want to be a part of the team supporting the Mabul Turtle Hatchery to ensure the future of the endangered sea turtles. As they train up to become Honorary Wildlife Wardens, they join in the process of nest relocation and hatchling release learning from others on the best practices for the continued success of the programme.
